On my project, I found the motor mounts a mix of straight/bent, riveted/missing rivets, and welded. So I'm going to redo them. Is riveting only considered acceptable or should I rivet + weld? Anyone seeing problems with failed mounts when only riveting?
Originally they were riveted and braised. I would not expect riveted only to hold given the vibrations this part is subject to. For that matter, braising alone may also be subject to failure. Riveting alone would also be prone to leaking.
Just to avoid confusion, I am talking about the mounts on the frame, not the arms on the engine pan.
Now I'm confused!
The only "motor mounts" I'm familiar with are two arms riveted and brazed to the engine pan, which bolt to the frame, with spacer blocks of wood to keep the bolts from de-forming them.
There were aftermarket auxiliary "helper" mounts, that either placed a strap under the transmission, or beefed up the existing arms. But they weren't original.
Am I missing something, fellows?
Mounts for engine to frame are the arms on the crankcase.
Maybe you mean the front mount, engine/spring clip on the cross member?
T engine uses only 3 mounting points.
Dale, when the pan arms were braised, do you know what seasoning was use to flavour them?
Cheers, Allan from down under.
Very sorry guys, I'm the one that is confused. I found some pictures, and these are not the motor mounting frame points I am looking at. They are the two brackets (not body brackets), one on each frame rail, which are a few inches forward of where the crankcase arms bolt down. I think the dash sits down on them. Sorry I don't have any pictures on me right now to better explain.
Sorry for the confusion, this case is closed.
For a 27,that would be Firewall brackets or possibly the hood shelf brackets??
If it is a 27, it sounds like he is referring to the bracket for the hood shelf. It is just riveted.
Body mount brackets?
Allen, I am not the best speller and didn't feel like fighting with the iPad's spell corrector. Barbecue sauce probably wouldn't work as well as flux.
Richard,I have some hood shelf brackets if you need some.
