Here is the casting date on my Touring. It appears to indicate April 3, 1913, since it seems to read...4 3 ? 13.
Can anyone tell me what the goober is, between what I am assuming, to be the month and the year?
Sorry, just me being snide.
The molds and patterns had space on them to screw in the date pieces which were changed daily to keep track of molds and pattern's developing flaws and needing to be replaced or repaired. The date pieces were held in with screws, and pieces did not always line up well. Sometimes the screw head's impression can be seen in the casting.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
