Got the call around 4:00pm, The Dr's gave him only about about a month to live so my son made the gut wrenching decision to go ahead with the kidney surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30am. With the surgery he only has a small chance of pulling thru as it's very possible his remaining kidney that is only working at 80% may shut down during the operation, Without the surgery it's for sure we will lose him in about a month so it's now or never. If his remaining kidney does not shut down during the surgery he has a %60 chance of living a full life. I'm on a 8:00am flight to Madison Wi in the morning. I will do my best to keep everyone updated.
In my thoughts and prayers, Will.
From my family to yours, our thoughts and prayers.
Prayers for your grandson from our family. Tim
Here's to him living a full life. Hoping and praying.
Charles
Still praying for him and your family during this difficult time Will. Have a safe trip.

Will as a Medical Practitioner myself I can tell you that the Docs in the States provide the best care in the world. Thinking of you -Karl
I just said a prayer for him.
I will pray too.
As a "Pa Pa" to nine grandkids, I have no words to express my feelings for what you all are going through. There is nothing worse than seeing kids and grandkids going through these kinds of things and not being able to do anything about it but pray. My heart goes out you all. Dave
God be with You
-Don
Best wishes for him and you and the family.
God's strength be with you ALL....
Regardless of the outcome I am awed by the the toughness of your grandson and family. Like everyone else, I'm pulling for you all. Hoping for a favorable outcome of the surgery.
We pray that God will place his healing hands on your grandson. He will be in our thoughts and prayers, especially today. In Jesus we pray
Your family is in my prayers.
Praying for your family.
We will be thinking of you.
I just said a prayer for him. I realize it's past 7:30 there at this time, so he is in surgery right now.
Norm
We are praying for you and your family, Will.
Continued on our daily prayer list
Will, you and your family are in my prayers. Hoping for the best.
My language has no prayers in it, but I do hope your grandson gets well.
Will, my daily prayer went out to him and your family early this morning. About the same time as his surgery. Let's hope that's an omen. Will say more prayers-like right now-for him and you all.
God Bless that little guy James, may He smile upon him, his doctors, and his family. May he come through this surgery with complete recovery. In Jesus' name, Amen.
We hope and pray for the best.
Will Your grandson and family have remained on our prayer list.
We are believing in a miracle!
will, god speed to your grandson! so glad you will be there.
James is still in surgery, I'm told it can take 18 hours. The surgeons just changed shifts. We an update every hour or so and so far the reports have been promising.
Wow, that's a long time! Still praying. Miracles do happen! Hang in there.
Just got an update, The surgeons have removed the kidney, part of a lung, some of the liver and part of his diaphragm. Right now I'm told they are reconstructing the diaphragm so it will function. That's all I have at the moment. The next few days will tell more.
Will, I stand in awe of your and your family's strength, as well as your grandson's strength and determination. Every time I log onto the forum and see that there is a new post on this thread, it is the first one I read.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
God Bless,

I am praying for your grandson and your family .
He's in our prayers Will .
James and the rest your family are in my prayers as well.
Hoping and praying, hoping and praying. When we went through some of this several years ago with my wife's sister, the doctors told us that the longer they were in surgery, the better things were likely to be.
I like to hear things like "eighteen hours" and "changing shifts" because I know that they keep working because they think they can make a difference by doing so.
Hoping,
Hoping,
Hoping,

Good morning everyone, James came through surgery just fine. He was in surgery for about 13 hours. He is in the ICU this morning recovering. I talked to the nurse this morning and she told me that the surgeons feel they got over 98% of the cancers that was through out his body. James has a long cut that goes from just under his left arm pit to about three inches below and to the left of his belly button and then across to his other side. They placed a feeding tube into his stomach as this is where he will be getting feed from until he is able to eat on his own. A big thank you for for all your prayers and support, it will never be forgotten. As he continues to improve I will keep updating.
One of the first things I do (after making coffee) in the morning is to check new posts on the forum. What a great way to start the day today!
Will,
I'm so thankful for the good news. We will continue to keep James in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Respectfully submitted,

I don't pray a lot but I have been on this one, I hope and pray it did some good, Frank
Good morning everybody, so quick chance to give everybody another update. He is doing pretty good considering everything that is going on. His right lung is about 50% collapsed. There is a slight air leak in the right along around the spot that they had to cut the tumor off it. The doc's feel it should reinflat on its own.He has a lot of fluid buildup in his body but the doctors are adjusting medications to help drain off the fluids. Last night they took three separate x-rays of his lungs because of the fluid buildup they are having a difficult time adjusting the ventilator to keep the pressures in the right area . They are keeping him very heavily sedated, he opens his eyes every now and then but I really do not think he sees me. That way the doctors and the nurses keep moving from room for tests and different things heavy sedation is the best thing for him right now . Last night they had to install another IV for some kind of special medication to help with the fluid buildup, something about this medication cannot mix with the other medications are going to the other lines. He has nine separate lines going into him. He has fiveLines going into one IV and for him to another IV on the other side of the body, and then the separate IV to help with the fluid buildup. That is all I have for the moment, I will send another update as things progress as always thank you everyone for your prayers and support is greatly appreciated
Will,
Continuing to pray for him.
Did he end up going to St. Jude hospital, as you mentioned he might?
Will, this is encouraging news, albeit I'm sure feels very slow for the family. I have faith he'll keep getting better. We're still praying daily.
Jerry, no they did not go . They were afraid that he may not have been able to make the trip. The doctors at Saint Jude's conferred with the doctors here at the Winconsen Children's Hospital and concluded that they were doing everything they could and that Saint Jude would not be able to do any better .
Will,
That sounds like high praise from St. Jude. All the more reason for hope.
Thank you Will C for keeping us informed. You, and your grandson, are part of our extended family (all of us/our).
That does indeed sound like high praise from St. Jude's. We continue to hope and pray for a full recovery for James, and the strength for you to help lead him on to full and wonderful long life.
Wayne and Linda Sheldon
Glad to hear that he is recovering. I'm a strong believer in the power of prayer.
So this morning the doc's determined that the chest tube is no longer flowing as much as it did. They are now considering removing the chest tube. This is a major advancement
Will C. Thanks for the good news update. My prayers are with you and your grandson. Let us pray and hope for a full recovery. Just think, he may in the future run in a primary for President of the United States, just like what is going on now in WI!
that's great news, keep on healing little one!!!!
Thats a great report!! PRAYER WORKS! TIM
Will, I love to see the words "major advancement"...as the "other Tim" said, great report, prayer works!
And we'll keep praying!
The other other Tim
Will, we have some of the best hospitals in the country here in Wisconsin though they don't do a lot of slapping themselves on the back.
Your grandson is lucky to be here as you and your family now well know.
Children's Hospital's motto is "Kids Deserve the Best" and your grandson is certainly GETTING the best.......
DANG he must be a tough one.
Prayers for him and your family.

Yeah! And yes we will continue to be praying.
God Bless,
Hap
Of all the luck, I have picked up some kind of virus. So now I can't be in the room with James. So I just sit in my room at the Ronald McDonald house and wait till I can be cleared to be with him again. I am freezing and sweating at the same time and everything on my body hurts. Guess I should had expected this, being from Florida I'm not used to 35 degrees
Take care of yourself Will and get well. The little guy is going to need you at the hospital. Now praying for James and your recovery.
Will, I hope you get back on your feet quickly. When your grandson is moved to a regular room please post his proper name and the Hosp address & his room number If you do so, I suspect lots of cards will show up from the wonderful folks on this forum. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.
Jerry
If what you got is same as I got it lasts about a week. Light cough runny nose and shivering. just can't get warm. Then later sweat. Ache all over. Probably the flu.
Sorry that you are sick, but it is best not to strain his system with anything else that he already has.
Hope you are well soon.
Norm
Ok Jerry I will but it may a long way off Norm, I asked if they thought it might be the flu, I told them I got my flu shot in Florida and they said I needed a Winconsen booster shot
Yeah, AARGH! As I often say, "Take care of you too!"
Will, here's adding YOU to the prayer chain too! Yeh, sounds like the good ol' rust belt flu to me. I heard it got a real late start this year. Go figure. Take care, and rest assured tons of us are pulling for all of you.
