We're getting the 6-40 Roadster dialed in for the summer. Today I worked on the idle, and starting "on the high gear."
Ford claimed the two speed planetary transmission was more than adequate for it's cars, and that the "K," with it's high torque six cylinder engine should be able to operate in normal driving situations on high gear alone:
In May, 1908, a Ford Six was one of 18 cars scoring a perfect record out of 47 entrants covering a 174 mile course. What set the Ford apart from the other perfect scorers was running the entire course on the high gear alone:
We've had a few inches of rain over the last day and a half, so the gravel road was a little "soft," but the "K" started on high gear at a fast idle and almost no clutch slippage:
