Is anybody going to this event? Haven't heard a word for a long time. Sure hope it is better than Bakersfield.
Better than Bakersfield??? How can anything on the west coast be better than Bakersfield?? (at least for early car parts). Auburn is VERY good though--but you didn't hear it from me!!
Two buys from years past--both purchased near or after noon; complete chassis, bum wheels $200, Rebuilt 1925 engine, not assembled, new parts in boxes, $400.
However, there isn't a great Ice Cream place nearby. Nah, probably not worth going to. . . . .
I'll be out there selling my stuff. I hope to see you as I have something for you. I'm going to try to get a spot across from the food booth (closer to the pies) in the first row, I'll have a couple of T frames pointed skyward leaning on my pickup. The weather man says it's going to be in the triple digits!
Yes, weather forecast is HOT with a period of HOT included. 95 high. The low, though is 65, so morning shouldn't be too bad, but by noon!! Sunrise at 5:39AM
UH OH: from the Accuweather site: (all caps theirs, not me!)
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE REGION
SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY AS AN UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM MOVES
THROUGH CALIFORNIA. SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY REACH THE
VALLEY FLOOR SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING. THE TRANSITION
FROM A HOT STRETCH INTO A THUNDERSTORM EVENT HISTORICALLY LEADS TO
INCREASED FIRE STARTS, AS THUNDERSTORMS MAY NOT DROP MUCH
However, the forecast notes only a 6% chance of Thunderstorm.
It's going to be crazy hot on Saturday, maybe just way hot on Sunday. The hot deals will be at the Barrett/ Weitzel spaces. David, if you have an ice cream crisis there are a couple places in town.
Yeah, but Foster's Freeze ain't DeWars!!
Erik so you get a smoken deal if I brought ice cream leaves more beer for me
Ah, but not more PIE!!!
Any port in a storm, David. Foster's does make a killer chocolate shake if you ask for it made with the hot fudge.
Bob, I have your list and you always get the best deal here ice cream or not. Beer is good too.
Erik, I have muffler pipe for you, if you want it! let me know!
Yes, the hot fudge THICK shake is pretty good (we have a Fosters in Oroville too--it's not really that backwards here!
David, bring the pipe to the meet and I will buy it there. Glad to know you know about the Foster's thick shake. Sadly, the Auburn Drug Company, with its century old soda fountain closed not long ago.
Will do!! let's see, storage, delivery--oh heck, I owe you anyways!! Right now it's sitting on top of a piano I need to refinish!
Yes, at least at the Oroville FF you have to ask for thick, as the hot fudge thins down the shake if they're not paying attention. Auburn Drug gone, bummer, they had a neat sign on their building, wish I'd had time to go in there. Does the Hotel still serve their famous Basque dinner? Ate there before we were married---egads, 40 years ago!!
Hmm, time for my nap. . .
Alas, the Auburn hotel Basque dinner is long gone. The closest you can get is the Wool Growers in Los Banos or the Sante Fe hotel in downtown Reno. See you at the meet.
OR J T's in Minden Nevada----OOOOHHHH GOOOOODDD!
But not like the old days when you wandered through the bar into the back room and all you did was eat what was offered that night, sitting at long tables along with everyone else! Now you can sit at your own table and select a main dish. It's still good and plenty though! Oh, and you still have to walk through the bar!
David, I remember going to that place in Minden when we were there for the Silver State Tour. As I recall, it is adjacent to a golf course. So much food you did not need to eat until the next afternoon. Good memories.
Hmmm, the description of the food is right, but JTs is in "downtown" Minden (if you can still find "Downtown" the place has grown so much). There is an old casino across the way though & I can't remember the name!
Louis basque corner in Reno or the Santa Fe both good but Minden about 45 miles south of Reno J&T
Make that trip alot in the model A and when I got a T going but that a 60 mile trip as the T I take the back roads
Overland Hotel is gone now as well but a good basque meal Erik right good till the following supper bell
Bob, the Overland is gone? WTF?! Do you mean in Fallon? In the early 90's I worked across the street at the Chevy dealership. When it closed, I bought the factory issued picture of the Oldsmobile Limited racing the NYC train that was given to the dealership in 1913 when they opened as an Olds dealer. I don't doubt that the Basque kitchen has closed. I bet the hotel and bar remain open.
The basque place by the golf course is in Gardnerville, not Minden, and is fantastic. Can't remember the name though.
Erik not the one in Fallon ?
I never eaten at the basque joint near the golf course but think it's still there
J&T serves a good "picot punch " so why go elsewhere
Found a great eater the T&J in Colfax CA. ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE AUBURN SWAP
Larry, that's the one I remember. David D delivered one of your exhaust pipes to me at the meet. First rate, far and away superior to any others available. Thanks.
Interesting how many of us are into Ice Cream, Basque food, and other stuff! I knew Erik would like that pipe! That was one great swap meet.
Bob, I have to go over to Reno area for some piano work sometime this summer, would be great to get together!
David just drop me a note when your heading this way
Erik got an exhaust pipe from me as well
But I kept my beer
Basque food and ice cream and model Ts now that be one h?ll of a good tour
So looks like basque / ice cream tour should be planned in the near future
Well maybe a cookout tonight's dinner lamb ribs and oysters oh yum
Maybe ice cream and basque tour
Boy no idea why my computer sorry ultimate posts
Sounds like a plan! Now to get my Reno area trip firmed up--probably at least a month away.
