Don Houseman Speedster FOUND in ABQ
And the details are...... ??
No damage. Larry Azevedo is currently trailering the parrot green speedster back to his place.
Sweet!
Started right up. ABQ Police found it south of I 40 near Rio Bravo.
Fantastic
This is great news!!!
Great News
Talk about a hot potato! After all the exposure the theft got, the thieves abandoned it. Good news.
That is great news!
glad to here its found and OK
Great find.
Fantastic -- great news!
Now in Larry's Driveway
I got a call from the police department about 7:30 this morning that the speedster was located. I was on the call list to pick up the car and/or trailer to avoid impounding charges. I hooked up my trailer and drove south of Albuquerque on I-25. The car was abandoned in an arroyo east of the Interstate just south of Rio Bravo and I-25. The officer took my identification and gave me the keys which were left with the car. It was in deep sand and hard to get my trailer lined up so I tried to start it. It started up just fine, oil pressure OK. I should have just drove it to a good spot to line the trailer but decided to turn it around and drive on the trailer. As luck would have it it died crossways in the sand and the battery did not have enough juice to turn it over. Since it has no crank I had to tow it a bit to line up with the trailer. Anyway, got it on the trailer and back to my house by 10 AM. There is no visible damage to the car. Don and Nancy Houseman are really happy!
Great ending for the T, hopefully just the beginning for the thieves
What a relief for us all and of course for Don and Nancy.
So it seems like the loss is now only the trailer and the damage to the ignition in the truck?
Fantastic news! Very happy for the owners!
Thanks to Larry Azevedo and the others that are on the "call list". Especially thanks to Larry for all his work in the recovery effort and for the forum post to update us all.
Might be that more information will be forthcoming, and altho' the still missing trailer is certainly an issue, that loss is by far the least concern compared to the speedster and pickup truck.
I believe that in time, the trailer will also be located, and I think it is noteworthy that the trailer, which is the least of importance and value, remains the only one of the three vehicles still missing. Altho' not conclusive, one would tend to believe that this whole theft incident is probably another case of some "lowlife" that really just wanted temporary use of a trailer. Again, conjecture, but "statistically speaking", probably for use as a meth lab, or less likely, but possibly just really needed a trailer for moving from one dump to another.
All of that to say that another real lesson can be learned from all this, and that is to be very, very careful about doing everything possible in the area of security when using an enclosed trailer,....especially a plain white one! FWIW,......harold
No it is not Don's Trailer, BUT
It is Don and Stan Gauna.
Look closely at Don's deck shoes.
Fantastic News!!!
HALLELUJIA!
I am so glad that the speedster was recovered, and in good shape. Thank you Larry A! Your dad would be proud.
Great to have a car stolen that very few thieves know how to drive. They probably gave up when they got tired of pushing it through the sand.
Great way to start the week.
Terrific! I hope that now they catch the dirtbags that stole it all. No love at all for that type of scum.
Was the trailer ever found?
Larry,
What you did goes above and beyond.
Kudos,
Freighter Jim
I'm so glad it was recovered and still in good shape! Larry -- great support!
Respectfully submitted,

I was hopefully optimistic the car would be found. Not so much the trailer. The trash that stole it were not after the car, to be sure. They probably broke open the door of the trailer and said "What the )/;-$&@ is that?" Knowing they couldn't fence such a unique machine they ditched it. Thankfully they did not destroy what they couldn't keep. Nice work Larry.
Fantastic news. We will all get to see pictures again of one of my all time favourite speedsters on Tour again!
Very happy for you Don. I could stand to lose my trailer if I had too. Even the truck could be replaced. But not knowing where my speedster went would hurt for a very long time. This is great news.
Awesome news. Glad to hear it's back.
Now hopefully the trailer will be found, probably headed north to Colorado hauling someone's furniture, to their new home.
AWESOME NEWS - Thank you for following thru and updating all of us here that have been checking daily. Way to go Larry!
I am with Michael on this --
The one irreplaceable item is the speedster that Don spent so much time to put together. The truck and trailer are easily replaced, but the speedster is special.
I will not suggest what should happen to the dirt bags because someone might get a bit upset.
I think this is great news. If I could I would not lay a hand on the thieves but instead put them in a room with 500 tac-lights in strobe mode with their eyelids super-glued open
Oh, You have saw that #*#* commercial to uh GR?
I have to cover my eyes or change channels or something every time that comes on. I am afraid it will cause me to seizure.
Not that I don't agree it would be great treatment for the crooks, it is a great idea. Just Make them sing " I saw the light" afterwards!
Well that best news I heard today congrats
Don and Nancy's speedster arrived back home in Watsonville, CA on Monday, August 8.
Larry, That's great. Even though this isn't our car, we all appreciate your help in getting this car back to its owners.
I hope they get the dirtbags who did this and give them appropriate punishment....
Keith
Glad to hear that the speeder is home.
BIG SIGH OF RELIEF
Thanks Larry for taking care of Don's speedster and for the great tour.
Still no sign of the trailer?
Great news. I hope he and frankly everyone with a trailer runs out and gets a decent gps tracking device, its money well spent. I grow weary of hearing of trailers being stolen from events around the country with expensive cars inside, but an unwillingness to purchase a 100 dollar tracking device. Our world is changing, and the thieves are emboldened.
Wow, really fantastic! Very happy for them!
Ed:
Can you personally recommend one that is good? I have zero experience with this sort of thing but it does sound like a good idea if the tracking module or whatever it is can be well enough hidden that the thieves won't know there is one on it.
One system that is really worth looking into is called Lo/Jack. It's tied in with national law enforcement and the locators are in many patrol cars. I've never used it but it is highly regarded.

When all this happened, I decided to pull the string and get a unit. It is through Rhino Fleet. Very small, put it on top of my trailer. 4 AA lithium batteries power it for 3-5 years. Comes with a map app for iPhone, iPad, android phone and Windows computer. Mine is set to send me a hit at 6:30 am and pm where it is at. IF the trailer moves 1meter, I get a hit every 10 minutes till it stops moving. The unit is approximately 3" X 7" and maybe 3/4" high. They are used on a lot of containers. $10.00 per month after initial cost which was $180. Included shipping and activation. Automatic credit card pay each month. The map ad can be switched to satellite view which can be enlarged to see the trailer and surroundings. I stuck it down mainly with clear silicone.
