This picture proves that Air Conditioning was a conspiracy to get unwitting customers in the store instead of just enjoying the shade of the awning! Great picture!
Where is Browns Valley? It's surprising, how alike many of the old towns looked! Today, we have uniform building regulations in many of our towns. In the past, people just built what they wanted, but they still looked much the same.
Great pic. Love the cars.
That's Browns Valley, Minnesota on the corner of Broadway and Forth. The corner store is still a drug store.
I remember many of the businesses on the Main Street of my home town had canvas awnings over the sidewalk. The business owner would go out in the morning and turn a crank on the outside wall to extend the awning. This would have been in the mid 50's.
Browns Valley is about as far west in Minnesota as you can go and still be in Minnesota and about halfway between the Iowa and Canadian borders.
The drug store is still there
