Has anyone found a clever way to prevent the hood latches from scratching the paint off the hood?
Ralph Zajicek split a piece of plastic tubing and slipped it over the beaded edge of the hood. You could do similar with piece of vacuum line.
Find some black, hard plastic tubing that will slip over the bead at the bottom of the hood. Cut it to 1 to 1 1/2 inch lengths and slide two lengths along the bead until they line up with the latches. The latches will then bear on the plastic and not the hood bead.
One time I was using a plastic guard that had come as a protective cover on a new hand saw. It worked pretty nice.
Most times a lot more scratches happen when the hood hook retracts back on the hood shelf. To fix that cut circles of hard plastic from cover of a VHS tape carton. Install prior to placing the hood hook.
As others posted, put a split piece of tubing on the hood panel curled edge.
