I picked up that's head at an auction today. It is cast iron with no identifying marks. High compression, no Sparkplug wells, what is it? Who made it???
Should read "I picked up this head at an auction today."
Looks like a good one!!
Was that the auction in Auburn? How many cars did you come home with? Seriously, though, did you pick up any other goodies?
Might be Waukesha Ricardo.
I have a head like that with spark plug wells. Thought it may be an after market head. No markings. Chris N.Z
Steve - No I didn't go to Auburn, this sale was in Bellevue. I did not buy a lot but I did pick up a nice set of adjustable hand reamers and a nice early wishbone.
I don't remember who it was, actually, I think a couple different people did this. But about thirty or forty years ago, heads were made copying the Waukesha combustion chamber, and the standard Ford high head minus the original markings. Looks a lot like the late '26/'27 Ford head from the outside (except for the spark plug holes). I would imagine this is one of those. I could never really afford the cost of such upgrades, and lean toward original equipment myself anyway, so I never really followed who was making them. So, sorry I cannot tell you any names.
I think variations were made in both iron and aluminum. I recall hearing that "someone else acquired the molds" and was making "some". That is about all I remember about them.
Nice find! Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
