The bolt hole threads on the mounting bracket are worn out and or stripped. Is there enough metal around the holes to put helicoils in them?
The thickness where the arrow is pointing is slightly less than 1/8 of an inch.

I don't think that is supposed to be threaded. It just picks up the fourth main bolts.

That was fast. And interesting. I have only ever worked with 2 of these and both have been threaded.

They are supposed to be threaded. If the threads are worn out just braise the threaded area and rethread the hole.

There is enough room to just use a longer bolt and a nut on the back, I tack welded the nuts on my shifter.

I had one which was broken off. I welded a nut in the place. It works fine. you could also use a longer bolt with a nut.

I have never worked with a threaded one. I assumed they just used a longer bolt and nut.

Glen - Ref. "brazing",....I kinda' question the strength of brass threads,.....seems like with only two attachment points, thru' bolts and nuts would be a lot stronger, even if not "original". Again, with only two attachment points in a straight line, perpendicular to that long shift lever, quite a long "moment arm" there and lot of strain on those two bolts!

I have just finished fitting the change lever in my roadster. I used longer bolts through the mounting, but there was not enough room to fit a castellated nut, so I used a plain one with Loctite. It makes sense that the mounting holes were threaded. It would make fitting a breeze.

On another car I worked on, the lever mounting was in two pieces. The pieces were bolted on using the top and bottom bolts on the fourth main on each side. They were machined castings, certainly not some home made concoction. I have never seen another one like it.

The shifter bracket that came with my Ebay Ruckstell has (thankfully good) threads. :-)
