I suspect this might be an excursion from the Cunard liner RMS Samaria which was launched in 1920 and completed outfitting and trials by the end of 1922.

Nagao road is a renowned twisty drive across Japan with a great view of Mt. Fuji much of the way. It is popular with hot bikes and sport cars today. It would have been a treacherous muddy trail in 1923.

They were lucky they visited in april and not in september - the magnitude 7.9 earthquake that destroyed Tokyo and Yokohama that year had its epicenter very close to mount Fuji :-(
