I'm going to remove my engine (Triple gear issue) and I'm going to drain the Rad. Is there a best practice to get the rest of the water out of the block or just let it hit my shoes?

There shouldn't be much left in the block after draining the radiator. Just remove the water inlet from the block and dry it out with some compressed air, or let it drip out onto a pan until dry.
