A simple google search of "broken crank" shows pictures of crank failures in all manners of engines unfortunately.

Same type of issues as with a Model T crank - probably twisting fatigue, and the crack started at a small radius, possibly ground too small by the machine shop..
The harmonic twisting is amplified at certain rpms in all cranks without dampers - and there's unfortunately no room for a harmonic damper on a T crank with the standard pan :-(
