The u-joint I removed from my huckster is tight torsion wise and all the case rivets are tight but it has about a 1/8" side to side movement on both bearings. Is this a problem? As always all help greatly appreciated. Harv

IT's fine if the sections slide side to side. You don't want any slop in the holes where the yokes fit. IF there is any play there, replace it. You can find them easy enough.

It's the torsion wise tightness that's important. Both the axles that are joined are guided by their respective bearings, so it's important the U-joint is free to slide sideways as it turns. It's different with open drive shafts, they are fully guided by their U-joints.
