Do any towns still have cars park down the middle of the street like that?
It is still seen in some small towns in Texas. It was like that on West Jefferson street and West Davis Street (one runs east, the other west as part of US 80 business) here in Dallas when I was a kid, but they eliminated the central parking to make the street four lanes in the 1980's to allow for heavier traffic.
Interesting that they could park so neatly when there are no lines in the street to tell them how to park.
