Hi Folks,
I'm trying to get an approximate date for the chassis I'm using for my Speedster Project and maybe you can help me.
There is no battery box and its never had one...no holes for it.
It has both '17 & onwards firewall mounting bracket holes and pre '17 Firewall mounting bracket holes. Both have been used at some time in its past.
Also, there are two small holes, equally spaced about halfway between center and side rails of the frame in the front of the front cross member.
Any suggestions?
Thanks & Cheers,
Rob

I would say late '16 -late '18 model years. They planned things ahead. By the end of the '16's the frames to take the '17 style firewall brackets would have been in the system. Likewise for battery box holes. I have seen an absolutely untouched original '16 with the 17 holes in the frame.

I would say late 1916 - 198 Calendar years.

Thanks gents,
That's good to know in case anyone asks.
I always figured it was somewhere around 14-17 but now I know for sure.
Cheers,
Rob

What year do you plan to call the finished car?

Rob,

Note the dating for the frame above is probably based on the US changes. Your frame is probably a Canadian supplied frame. If so, it may have followed closely with the US changes or sometimes they were ahead (slant windshield and one man top introduced 1920) and sometimes behind (ribbed pedals continued into the 1920s.)

The new MTFCI Judging Guidelines have added information about the Canadian produced cars. I do not know if it would include that level of detail about the Canadian frames or not.

That is going to be one nice looking speedster.

Respectfully submitted,
