I've got a tapered front leaf spring that has dimples in each leaf that line up with each other. There is no bolt. What years is it for?
I also have one. It had 9 leaves in it.I suspect it is aftermarket.
I have a tapered leaf front spring with the dimples as you described. The top leaf's dimple enters the front cross member like a center bolt does. About ten years ago I got it from a long time Model T collector. I asked him about the dimples instead of a center bolt and he said that they were used by Ford around late 1912 to early 1913 as a experimental design. I don't know where his information came from or have a Ford document to reference. There is nothing to hold the complete spring together until it is installed in the front cross member so I am not sure it was aftermarket but the leaf's don't have any markings on mine.
Dan Treace posted an ad for it a few years ago. I think it may have been an Apco product. Neat looking.
Likewise here.I bought one of those from, I believe their names were Mark Keech and Tom Timm many years ago. I found an advertisement for this style of aftermarket spring. They promoted the idea that springs usually broke at the centerbolt holes. I forget if that as was in a Clymer reprint or an original magazine.
Typing same time as Royce. I believe you are correct, Royce. It was good front spring. I ran the hell out of the T that was under. I sold that to my Ford parts and service zone rep.He donated it to a charity auction and got an obscene right off for it. It was a maroon speedster with '12 style frame, '13 rear end and era correct front end.Forged speed lever controller shaft. I put a low radiator and starter type engine in it before I sold it. Would love to know what happened to it.
I have a spring with raised bumps all the way across, and another with a line across the width that looks like your pant leg after you unfold it. Not sure how it would fit in the crossmember (might be for a different car anyway).
Here's mine I posted back in 2010 under Accessory Of The Day

I've seen those. I believe they are buggy springs.
If you check the parts books, there is no mention of that type of spring.
Once again something new is learned. Have never seen a spring like that. Guess it didn't catch on.
I have a set of springs like that also. They are identical to model T springs except for the dimples.
My dimpled front spring looks a lot like the one in Jay's picture, except the main leaf is not drilled for the oil holes and the second leaf's shape is not clipped square.
I replaced a couple of missing leaves in a front spring with the ones with the dimple. I ground the dimple flat and then drill it out, so it would work with the other spring leaves.
