Came across this while doing a search and my curiosity. The 'static' of the 78 RPM records can be readily heard. Subsequent links provide even more, including jazz of the day, some vocals, and an Australian connection.
"20 Greatest" - 1910 -20
There are a lot of folks that "restore" old 78 rpm recordings and take out the pops and hiss while playing them back with proper equalization and post the results on YouTube.
"Prozoot" is a good example of someone who is really talented at doing this. Unfortunately, he hasn't uploaded more recordings in a number of years but what he has done in the past is very impressive.
There is a neat radio program by Glenn Robison. It is at www.rapidlyrotatingrecords.com. His radio shows are interesting to listen to.
