Would there be a market for new input shaft lock washers and/or a shim pack to set pre-load on the cluster shaft? When I pulled mine down there are steel shims to set the pre-load on the cluster shaft. They range in thickness from about .0025 up to about .0125. I was thinking making some sets with 2 each of .003, .005, three of the .010, one .015 or .020. and the lock washer or just the lock washer. The shims may be the same for all the aluminum cased (2 and 3 speeds). I only have the cast iron case to work with right now. Not at the point of having any cost yet just in the prelims.
Mark

Pretty hard to compete against $1.38 or so for the lock washer!

Thank you Layden, I will check the size against what is needed. Your right about the price. I will check if a Fastenal store close to me has them as shipping would shown at $9.10 UPS ground.

Any bearing house will carry them, ebay, etc.

I did some checking on line (Fastenal). Anything that is close isn't! The key width is way too small.
Needs it to be;
Bore Diameter of 1.353
Face diameter of 2.000
Outer diameter of 2.460
Key width of .250 to .300
Thickness of .048 to .061
This is the closest one I could find;

The one I used was intended for trailer use and needed very little modification. It was a no-charge throw in when I picked up the other bearings I needed, so it's not on the invoice and I can't give you a part #.

If you're really stuck I'll pick up another and mail
It to you.

Chris, thank for the offer. We have need for more then just one. I can have them cut to match the size of the one that works for not that much per piece. The same shop can cut the shims so was going to go for both if could not find a few of the lock washers.

Look through the Whittet Higgins lock washers. There are some that are pretty close.

You could easily make the shims on your lathe. Sandwich your shims between two pieces of wood, bore them, mount them on an arbor and turn the outside diameter.

The shims are triangle shaped, with 3 bolt holes, round center hole. This would not be a lathe type job. The tabbed lock washers that I have found that are close are not correct and to top that off the key is way to narrow. I looked at what WH has, looks to be the same as Fastenal.
