Awesome picture. I grew up very close to there (30 miles or so). That area is home to the Potawatomi Indians. Just north of them is the town of Dowagiac named after the band of Indians from that area (part of the Potawatomi tribe). Slightly west of Dowagiac is the town of Eau Claire. My Great Grandmother kept a scrapbook on the town all here life. When she died we found photos from her dads farm (which sold in 1907) and there were Pokagon Indians living on her fathers farm at that time. She said she remembered playing with the indian kids when she was a child. Never saw the photos until after she died. I don't think they attended school as she did.
That is the reason the automobile trip was fun back then. That looks nothing like the gas station across the street with another brand of gas. Thanks for posting
