The tab that the screw goes through on the ring that holds glass broke off when I went to put ring back on. Havnt checked if its brass or steel. Any suggestions?
If you are totally stuck and cannot figure out how to fix what you have, and can't find a replacement, try Trefler's in Newton, MA. They have a website. They are not specifically into antique cars, but they can fix just about anything that is antique, valuable, and broken. They are definitely not cheap, and also not fast, but if they say they can fix it, they can.
Similar lamps in incomplete or in poor condition can often be found. Finding one that the ring is exactly the right size? Pretty iffy. There were hundreds of similar lamps offered for sale back in the day. In many different sizes.
I would recommend silver solder for a repair (will work for either steel or brass). But only by someone with a bit of experience with it. Also, soldering on a fresh piece of material (much larger!) to the ring would be much easier. After the soldering is complete, then drill, cut, and trim to shape and fit.
Duct tape will hold it.....
