I posted a message a while back about cleaning the upholstery in my 1924 T. The fabric is in relatively good condition, but needs to be cleaned (to get rid of dust and dirt).
Can anyone recommend a way to do this?
Wow, nobody has done anything like this before? I thought I'd at least get one suggestion.
Maybe I can help, but realize all of my cars are open cars which have either leather or naugalhyde. Every large/medium city has dry cleaners who speacialize in cleaning drapes and fine uphostered chairs. You want one who does the work at your home and works with expensive fabrics, not a carpetmaster. Contact them and see if they will clean your car. As usual your biggest problem will be any stains but your seats should not be any mopre difficult then expensive furniture. Ask them about scotch guard when you are finished. Hope this helps, Jan
Does anyone know how to do this yourself? I don't think this car needs professional cleaning on the fabric - just a slight touch up or going over.
Has anyone ever tried this without paying to have it done, or removing everything from the vehicle?
I would just go to the grocery store and get some spray upholstery cleaner used for upholstered couches and chairs. There are several different brands. Always check for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area and if the color doesn't fade or weep, then spray away. Usually you then scrub it down with a damp clean cloth. To finish, let it dry and then I would spray with Scotchguard to protect the cloth from further dirt and spills.
Addendum: Make sure you vacuum as much dirt and dust out of the fabric before you start spraying the cleaner, it will make the job that much quicker. I also first used my air compressor to spray air onto the fabric at close range to blow alot of the dirt out of the fabric, then I vacuumed and cleaned, etc.
K.F. I have used the little green machine with a name brand cleaner and it works very well a little time consuming but it does work. the cost of the machine is less than 60.00 and you can use it about the house. I bought this for my wife but I think I use it more than she does. John
K.F. Go to Wal-Mart in the Automotive Section. Blue Can "Bluemagic" Carpet, Stain and Spot remover. The stuff works great on "T" Unholstery. Certainly . . TEST it on a small spot first! Good luck!
Those are good tips, I think I might look into the little green machine first. It will be an easy sell to my wife!
