I have a question about the centerdoor carpet in the photograph below. I'm having a new carpet made for my centerdoor and was going to use the photo as a guide to the upholstery shop. I can recognize the hole for the pedals and emergency brake and the little dimple for the starter button, but what are the other large hole
and egg-cup hole? Is the latter for the leg on the passenger seat?
I would greatly appreciate your help.
I'm just guessing, maybe some sort of auxillary
transmission ??

My guess (and that's what it is) is it had to be for some kind of heater coming from the exhaust pipe, and that was where the grate was (at the foor of the RF passenger). Wouldn't be for a battery access hatch; I think it's in the wrong place for that. I've also seen a set-up like that in a western auto catalog.
The 'keyhole' cutout and the other dimple would be for the feet for the passenger seat, if memory serves me. The carpet slides under the seat there, keys around one, sits against the other...
Ya know Sue, I think your right. They were talking
about that subject on the other sight. For some
reason it just didn't hit me.

David:
If you are talking about the square hole with the medal trim its for a heater. Some model Ts (not many) had a heater coming of the header pipe, (The pipe that connects to the manifold). The square hole is in the wrong place for a manifold heater. To be used with a manifold heater it has to be at the top right hand side about 2 inches from the top. If you still have the original floorboards in your center door you will find a gate that you can open or close. That gate will just fit your square opening.
Sue and Dave,
Thanks for your help. Now I know what I need to do. By the way, the photo is of a carpet I pulled out of an original centerdoor that someone bought at the San Diego swap meet last year.
