It seems to me it would be helpful if someone would compile a list of measurements of the parts on Model Ts that can be identified by those measurements.

For example, the height and width of doors, the weight of pistons, and other exact measurements which could be useful in identifying changes in models and years.

The glass catalog is a good beginning in this direction and is helpful for identifying windshield frames, but I'm not aware of any systematic and comprehensive effort having been made in the area of parts measurements.

From time to time I have seen people ask questions on this forum about parts identification which could be answered by a list of such measurements.

It could also be a great help in making wooden parts, especially straight parts which can be defined entirely in terms of measurements, such as floorboards, which have been asked about here before.

If this is considered helpful, people could send in measurements of various easily accessible parts on their cars such as:

"the front door of my 1922 touring measures 17" wide and 18" high, and the rear doors are 18 3/4" wide and 19" high"

and then if anybody had a 1922 touring with different measurements, he could mention it, and so on. Generally, it should only be necessary to measure any part for any given year once and thereafter only differences would need to be reported.

Even now, people seem to be having trouble determining the exact measurements of missing floorboards. It would be interesting to get enough contributions to determine the variation in rear floorboard measurements on original cars.

Of course, any measurements, to be meaningful, should come only from cars and parts which have a reasonable probability of being original.

What do you think?
