I'm reassembling the rear end of my 1917 Roadster . . . .well . . .actually the WHOLE CAR - anyway - I'm in the proces of attaching the drive shaft to the rear axle. I know I use "Lubriplate" in the rear end - does this also lubricate the roller bearing in the axle and also the ball retainer and thrust collers?
Or should I "Grease 'em up" before installing the drive shaft into the 'tube'?
Thanks again / glad we're back in business-
Don, As long as you have pre fit all the parts and have the correct clearances I would put a thin layer of the Lubriplate or grease on every part that mates to another. This is just good insurance that they will be properly lubricated on the initial start up. Better safe than sorry in my opinion...Michael
So . . . "Lubriplate" on THAT Roller Bearing and Drive Shaft Ball bearings and small Thrust Plates vs. AXLE GREASE as in the AXEL Roller Bearings?
In-other-words . . . NO "GREASE" on anything on the DRIVESHAFT?
Don, Any of the parts that will be lubed by the 600W after start up will just need lubriplate to get them past the first munute or so, any bearings above this area I would pack with bearing grease just to be safe. Eventually if some of the bearing grease mixes with the 600W no harm will be done....Michael P.
