Just picked up a beautiful 1926 Panel Truck with a 1925 (starter) motor. The truck is in PERFECT restored condition - it was restored in 1998 and then driven less than ten miles - it's been on display in retail stores ever since.
When I picked up the truck it had an 8-Volt battery that of course was deader-n'-a-doornail and would not hold any charge. I put a brand new 6 volt battery in it and within just a few minutes the NEW battery became weak very quickly when trying to start it. Yes, I did get her running and it seems to run like a top but, within just a half hour or so the battery gets weak.
Question . . . .when they rebuilt the truck (and everything was completely rebuilt- generator, starter, etc.) could they have done something or, rebuilt something or, somehow 'wire it' for JUST an eight-volt system?
I'm pretty good from the 'mechanical' part of a "T" but don't know squat when it comes to the 'electrical' -
THanks as always for you knowledge and imput - Don

Do you have a negative ground on your battery? What does you amp gauge say, you may have to kick your generator up a little. I like to set my generators so they show a nuetral charge when the headlights are on.

I have good friend that has had an 8 volt battery in his tt for years and he claims that he did not change a thing in his truck.

A couple more thoughts. Try taking your battery ground wire off and sanding the frame where it grounds. If there is too much paint on the frame you will not have a good ground. Also very important make sure that you have 6 volt battery cables all the way to the starter.
