Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2017: Photo Album

I just counted 20 posts from the top down and 14 were photos. Maybe we need a Forum, a Forum Classified AND a Forum Photo Album.

Hal, I agree with you, Forum photo Album. Since 1st of the year there have been 160 post on photo's. I like pictures like everyone else, but it is a pain in the butt trying to find a post in the past 21 days.

I love all the photos. Wish there were more. I save them to a thumb drive and use them for desk top photos. I have a few hanging in my shop. It gives me a glimpse into true life back in the day.

Will: I hate to sound dumb, maybe I am. How do you save photo's to a stick memory or as you call it thumb drive

Thank you

Let's not highjack the thread.

Nobody is trying to say that the photos are unwanted. The OP is merely suggesting to have a separate link like the classifieds.

I too love the period photos but the Forum, as of late, has been inundated with photos.

"but the Forum, as of late, has been inundated with photos"

And put me down as a vote for it to continue! I come here daily and that is one of the things I most enjoy. They spark interest and conversation, otherwise I could just read someone's diary of their restoration or read a boring technical manual.
Is it really all that hard to view depictions of items we all own and enjoy or seek knowledge of before getting to the written word?

Gents
I agree it would be excellent if we could have another area please.
It is hard to find just photos when that is all you want (sometimes my wife loves to just look at the old pictures) and it is equally hard to avoid them if you just want forum info.
I hope the majority agree and it is not too difficult to do.
And whilst I am at it - a big THANK YOU to the Administrator or Administrators for this forum.
I visit a few forums and it has by far the best content and for the great majority of the time the members are well behaved !!
Believe me that is often not the case on forums and bad manners really ruin it for everyone.
Thanks
Brian

Typical thread drift mania going on here.

The OP is simply musing if a separate link for photos, like the classifieds, would be useful.

No one anywhere said the photos are unwanted or "hard to view".

I usually look at the forum at least once a day and when I see a new photo, I click on it. And if there is something about it which interests me, I post on it. And if I have a photo which I think would help answer a question someone has asked, I will post it too. Also look for others ideas about the photo. However once I have seen the photo, if it is not of interest to me, I scroll past. If we had a separate forum for photos, we would never see the end of it. Anyone who wants to save a photo can do so. I like it the way it is.
Norm

I agree with a separate area.
It is difficult to find just the photos if that is all you want (sometimes I will show my wife just the old photos - they are great)
It is equally difficult to avoid the photos if you just want to see the forum content.
I hope the majority agree and that it is not too difficult for the administrators.
By the way, a BIG THANK YOU to the administrator/s for all the work you do - it is a great job and in my experience this is definitely one of the best forums I visit.
The content is great and the members are for the most part very well behaved - (this is also a sign of a good administrator).
There is nothing worse than people arguing, putting others down or stroking their egos on line. It just makes it a horrible place to be.
Thanks
Brian

Bill Dugger: you should be able to do a "right click" on the picture you want to save and a menu should come up for you to "save as", or some such thing. That choice should then allow you to save it to your "thumb drive", but you have to have it stuck into your computer first. It may show up on the menu something like "drive xx", or "removeable device", or some such thing. Getting so every computer's different on the commands. You'll find it.

A separate place for photos would be OK. I have no problem with it as it is. But if there was another "button" labeled "photos" beside the "classified" button, that would be OK too. And Ill also give a thank you to the administrators for a job well done.

I'm with Donnie, either way works for me.

Just be aware that a lot of good text and discussion occurs in those picture threads, so I for sure will read every one, along with every thread in the "non-picture" section.

Regarding finding an older thread:

If you have some idea of a few of the key words in the thread title, you can hit <ctrl>F, enter the key words, and all of the thread with those words in the titles will be highlighted. :-)

I prefer keeping it all one forum. Easy to ignore photos if one wishes, and the photos will get more lookers if they are in with the OT threads.

To me the pictures are a great part of the forum but I can't see where it would matters as long as they are in another section like classifieds as stated above. The pics show the new members to the forum so many great shots of these cars in different settings over the years. I appreciate all of them myself. Jmho Tim

I'm amazed at how easy it is look up the words you are interested in and add + MTFCA Forum on Google and it will find every thread posted on that subject.

I like it as it is. Most are marked as photos. I see no benefit in putting them in a separate area on the forum. I like the OT threads, the photos and find a bit of interest in a few of the technical posts.

Like others here have said, i vote to keep the pics weaved in with all the questions and technical data that at times can get pretty boring and repetitive. Thanks to Jay and others here who post them and give us a perspective of an era, and the life and times of the cars that we all seem to cherish so much.

If you've been on this forum for a long time, there are not that many technical posts that you haven't seen a number of times. Although it is a great help for new people.

It's mainly the old photos that keep me coming back. At the same time you automatically glance at the other postings. If you have the photos in a separate page, I think many people that do respond to the technical posts, etc., but are mainly interested in the pictures, will likely not go through all the other posts like they are now.

As for myself, I don't like to spend a lot of time on the computer. I need to get out in the garage and get something done. Having everything in one place leads me to look at everything

I think a separate photo forum would be a good idea. Very few of the photos interest me and other topics get lost among the lengthy photo titles. I didn't want to be the first to mention it, but I'll second the motion.

I wonder if the administrator would chime in and offer his input regarding the difficulties or additional expense of having a photos only page.

for me I enjoy the photos as much as the information input. So I'm neutral with or without photos makes no difference to me.

just sayin'

I would be surprised if it was any harder than creating the "classifieds" page was.

Even with a separate "photos" page, be prepared for some crossover from one page to another, look at how folks sometimes put regular posts in the Classifieds and vise versa.

If nothing else, it will give folks one more thing to argue about - does this post belong in "photos" or not! :-)

I think you'd see a drop in activity on this forum if photos were in a separate category. Often a photo will be a springboard for an interesting Model T discussion that would have never happened otherwise. Please leave things "as is".

I would vote to not change. All of the photo posts have already been titled as such. As several folks have said, they generate good questions and answers. And as we know, a picture speaks a thousand words. I like the old adage of keeping it simple. I would like to discourage the 'bttt' as a just for fun. I read every word of every post almost daily. I rely on the high-lighted titles to keep track of what is new or I have already read.I found myself combing through the all of the recent photo 'bumps' hoping there were some new additions to the conversation...

I say BAN all these old photos. They only poison the minds of youth and cause

The funny thing is, I had a conversation about this very subject with my son just a few days ago. He Runs his own business doing Information Technology contracting and consulting. One of the things he said was that most car related (especially antique car related) websites and forums are terrible. He says it is just the nature of the beast. Car people mostly do not really understand computers, and most computer people cannot understand cars. When you mix the two? There are gonna be problems.
I told him some of the reasons I really like this forum (like he did not already know that). He said that his opinion is that we should continue the old format as long as we can. And he is a computer professional.
Among the format issues we discussed, was the photo posting. I will repeat here some of what I told him.

The mtfci site had numerous photo specific threads. They were by far the most popular threads on the mtfci forum. I liked those threads myself, but they had a serious flaw. There was rarely ANY discussion of individual photos. Their site either did not have the capability to post discussions of individual posted photos and keep them with the individual photo? Or that capability was not being utilized. That was sad. While one could look through all of the 1915 pictures? The different cars and details did not get pointed out for everyone to learn from.
Here? I like much better overall. A photo of interest is posted (labeled as "old photo" or not). If people find it interesting? Comments are made. Odd details of the car, or accessories, are pointed out. Minor changes that Ford made are noted, and we can all learn from them. If a person sees something of particular interest? They can bookmark it on their computer if they want and/or know how (I have literally hundreds of threads bookmarked myself because they contain details of interest to me). Once in awhile, someone will ask a specific question, and I can actually find my bookmark and share it. (I can only rarely find such things with google.)

Personally, I think I would prefer keeping the old photos the way they are, mixed in with everything else (except the separate classifieds section). I think other discussions would suffer if they were separated. But that is my opinion.
It could be nice, if some sort of index and/or cross reference could be made available. But the fact is, for that to be effective, SOMEONE would have to volunteer a lot of time to put it together and maintain it with forever updates. For family reasons, I cannot do it. And I wouldn't ask someone else to do it either. If someone has BOTH the skills, and lots of spare time with nothing better to do? It could be a wonderful thing. It could also turn into a life-long task.
What we have, is very good. And it works.
Thank you Chris Brancaccio! (One of the rare people that understands both!) And others that make this the wonderful site it is!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

I learn a ton of info not only about cars but the way things were done back then. The discusion about photos brings up details of that I would never learn any other place. Thanks to all that post them and comment on them.

I would rather see vintage photos of model T Fords than modern pictures of model T Fords from a reference point of view. The pictures posted here are not only great fun ... but can be very valuable resources. Can't tell you how many screen shots I've made to keep in my reference files. Of course I work in the conservation department in a photography museum ... so, deep in the culture of vintage photographs.
