I am looking to see the routing and any support brackets for the speedometer cable for 26 coupe w/AC speedo

I didn't know they had AC in a coupe in 26.

My 19 hack has natural AC because there are no windows!
And if I wore a speedo they would put me in jail :-)

There is no set place for the cable to run or nor are there any support brackets. It goes from the drivers side wheel to were ever you mount the speedo head. They are aftermarket so I would mount where it is easy to see. I had mine taped to the steering column.

Michael, The AC setups I have seen have the head mounted to the right of the ammeter with the cable going through the floorboard next to the carburetor adjustment rod. The cable then goes under the engine to the left spindle where it is attached to the drive unit. The cable is quite long. I hope this helps. Russ Furstnow

Drive gear on left side of this '26 coupe.

Don't remember placement of the speedo head, but you can see the cable running in a notch above the brake pedal someone placed in the upper floorboard, one way to do it.

Then that long cable ran down between the splash apron and frame to the driver's front wheel.

I see speedometer gears mounted on the right all the time. This is the first I've heard of connecting to the left wheel. Which is correct for 1915, or does it matter?

Steve

The '26 above is aftermarket, Ford stopped factory install of speedometers in 1914 I think.

For 1915 the dealer could install what the owner wanted, many installed the "Ford Special" speedometer. Russ's book covers those well.
Also avail were the Stewart 26 and 24. Silver faced 102 and model 100. Cables ran shortest distance to the passenger front wheel as those heads mounted on the less cluttered right side of the firewall.

As standard for most all wheel driven speedometer drives were on passenger side wheel. AC mounts on the other side, drivers.
You could buy an AC drive for the passenger side wheel but they are very rare and far in between. I had a closed cab that had the speedometer mounted on the left side of the dash, that way you could use a much shorter cable.

My '26/'27 Coupe has a worm gear drive on the passenger side wire wheel. The small speedometer is attached to the steering column. Mike is your coupe wooden or wire wheeled?

I have a Stewart 490 speedometer in my '26 coupe. The speedometer is installed in the dash and the cable runs under the cowl tank through a U-shaped hole cut in the upper floorboard just below the steel firewall and just to the left of the choke rod hole. It then goes through the large hole in the engine splash pan just under the carburetor and on to the right wheel where the speedometer gear connection is mounted. Jim Patrick

PS. The U is small. Only about 1/2" wide. No bigger than the diameter of the cable. Jim Patrick

The one I have is a Stewart. I reckon it will go on the right, where the light from the battery charger can shine on it.
