While stripping a rear end from a chassis yesterday, tried to remove the rear radius rods. There isn't enough room to clear the front threaded end mount. While putting the "v" of the rear part of the radius rods against the axle tube its close but not enough room to remove. Is it necessary to remove the open spool bolts to remove the radius rods for an improved car differential? Thanks, Dave
Take it out as one unit. Rear axle and radius rods and tork tube. Are you rebuilding rear axle?
Miss read your post. If its out,yes remove spool bolts.
Yes, have the whole assembly removed. Tied it up against the wall with the universal end in a 5 gal. bucket. The plan is to pour diesel fuel though the filler hole to "clean" a little before total tear down and inspection. After lurking here for a while, realize this is one thing I shouldn't neglect.
There have been several threads recently on rear axle rebuild, including mine. Great info. Get the books suggested and you cant go wrong. Any questions can be answered here. I could not have done it without forum support. Not the correct way is what I should say. Keep us posted.
Have the book. trying to get the frame stripped, sand blasted, painted first, and reassembly will begin. Gathering parts, and research is going on now. learned quite a bit from this site. Thanks MTFCA and members.
