Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2017: Book Project

I will be driving a Model T on the Lincoln Highway from New York City to San Francisco in April. The result will be a book, which will be published in 2018.
The car is a 1926 Speedster with a Rajo head.
I suspect the trip will take three weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated, such as setting up Model T contacts along the Lincoln Highway for potential parts or service. Or potentially to meet up with T enthusiasts for a beer at the end of a driving day.
Thank you so much.

too bad I couldn't take the time or I would be trying to tag along. Tom if you need any help getting the car set up give me a shout, and I did enjoy your last book on barn finds.

Thank you, Spencer. I'm leaving now and driving to Virginia to inspect the car. On the trip, my photographer will be driving a support vehicle that will be loaded with camera equipment.

I suggest you search the web for MVPA convoys. The Military Vehicle Preservation Association tries to do a major convoy every few years. Washing DC to San Diego along the Bankhead Hwy, Lincoln Hwy, the AlCan Hwy, Route 66 , etc. You should find some links to their iteneraries, rest stops, chase vehicles, safety inspections, support staff, rest stops, etc. Also the number of miles per day, police escort, etc.

Their avg. speed is 35 mph with WWII motorcycles, jeeps, trucks, etc., so it may be a good resource for you.

I am 500 feet from Lincoln Highway in Frazer, PA, There is a section of original highway that now is not part of Rt. 30. Look on a map of Malvern, Pa for old Lancaster Avenue. Also look for the General Warren Inn. The highway went right by it and thru a tunnel. The tunnel is now blocked. What date of May would you be coming through this area? I have a 24' T Speedster.

Is your trip timed to coordinate with the Speedster Reunion in Lincoln?

Do you have a YouTube channel and if so will you be posting about your trip?

Tom, I'll drive out East a ways to meet up with you somewhere in the western states. probably no further East than Nevada and cruise back into California and West coast, whatever I can find time for.
