Visiting the USA is a good opportunity to bring back some heavy T parts and save $ on shipping.

Which airline is best? I suggest looking at South China Airlines for two reasons:

1. Economy class gets you 46kg (2 x 23kg) of free checked luggage, see:

http://www.csair.com/au/en/tourguide/luggage_service/checked_luggage/free_checke d/

and can also pay extra for more 23kg pieces, see:

http://www.csair.com/au/en/tourguide/luggage_service/checked_luggage/Excess_bagg age/

The airline, unlike some others, does appear to allow auto parts to be taken in checked luggage, see:

http://www.csair.com/au/en/tourguide/luggage_service/restrictions/articles_prohi bited/index.shtml

Parts though must be clean and not smell of petrol or oil otherwise the US TSA boys with have an issue with them.

2. If there is a long wait between connecting flights in Guangzhou that's a good thing because they'll give you a free transit visa then put you in a 4* or 5* hotel for free, see:

http://www.csair.com/en/tourguide/transit_flow/transfers_hub/free_accommodations /

This happened to me flying from Australia to Russia. I went for the 4* hotel which is further from the airport but in the center of the city. Hotel suite was HUGE...bedroom, sitting room, TV room, and two bathrooms. Free buffet breakfast was really good.

Airline has modern planes and service is fairly good; you certainly will not be beaten up and dragged away as what happened to that doctor on scumbag United Airlines.

My wife and I will be setting off in about 9 weeks for a 3 week holiday in the USofA visiting Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP and all things Ford in Deatroit/Dearborn. This entails 7 flights all up and the ONLY airline that would do the job for us was Delta.
Next year we'll be back in the USofA again..... visiting Houston, Austin,(USF1GP) New Orleans and Memphis (American Queen Mississippi cruise). This will need 5 flights and again the ONLY airline that does the things we want it to is ......wait for it......United.

Constantine.,
Thanks for the info on Sth China Airlines.
I'll bear than in mind when booking my flights for next year. My son-in-law is a travel agent and he speaks highly of them too.
Cheers,
Rob

A new tip for Aussies visiting the USA. Don't plan to leave the USA on the last day you are allowed to stay otherwise if things go wrong you could end up in a mess; see:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-02/australian-detained-in-us-for-overstaying- visa-by-90-minutes/8489612

Tough lesson for this young "hipster". Hopefully he's not sharing a cell with some bad hombre...
