Is this where the o-ring goes to help stop oil leakage? I know about the seal method but I want to try the o-ring first.
Looks like the bushing was modified to accept a seal that would have been in the recess in the snout. If that is what you are asking. It would be a lipped seal not an "O" ring.

But how does the o-ring method get done? Are modifications still required?
The O-ring oil seal modification is similar and saves no work. The bracket bushing must still be removed and parted and the O-ring is placed between the two parted pieces upon installation.
I like the modification above because you can correct the armature end play at the same time and the lip seal works well with the .687 armature shaft size.
