For those who don't have access to the album of pictures on my Facebook page, here are pics of a few more cars in the museum. A Woods Mobilette, a Kelsey Motorette, and an Ahrens-Fox fire truck, similar to the one that was restored in the "Ultimate Restorations" DVD series.

Even old fire trucks leak oil, nice pics.
On some of the older engines the oil was sacraficial as there was no oil pan. The oil was gravity fed and what collected in the lower tray was drained out at the end of the trip or allowed to drain on its own. Most of the older vehicles had drip trays under them for this reason. Later designs used scavenger pumps to pump the oil back up in to the tank. Many early British motorcycles and aircraft engines were that way with no oil pan ie dry sump.
