I saw a message on Facebook hinting that the 2017 Stynoski award winner had been named, who was it and can somebody post some pictures of their car? :-)

That is what I heard from a member that was on tour, congrats for sure. I know difficult it is to win I have been involved with four cars that have won and three cars that have lost. It's a big accomplishment and it seems even more difficult with a black faced Car restored to that standard.

My congratulations to him. I won with a black car in 2006 and it still is sinking in that it really happened. It never would have happened without a spectacular paint job. I'd love to see some photos of the winning car.

What is a Stynoski award? I never heard of it. Where is it offered? Was it for Model T's or other cars?

Here is Ross's car, not easy to win The Stynoski! Ross won with his 21' Canadian Coupe.

As far as I know, it's Model T's only, it's administered by the MTFCI:

It is the award for the most meritorious restoration of a Ford Model T. A car car compete for and win the award only once (unless it is re-restored, which i know has happened at least a couple times). A Canadian Coupe winning? Not that is a TOUGH job, with documentation being king. I am MOST impressed.

Norm its the most prestigious award for a car within the MTFCI club. It's not awarded every year because the car must pass the critical eye of the judges using the restoration manual that the club publishes. Some years the cars just don't meet enough of the guidelines.

The MTFCA doesn't have the judging contests at the national tours like the International club does.

It's a real honor to have your car win this award.

Yeah, we're very proud of Ross here in Texas. It'll be great to have that Stynoski here in the Republic - even if'n it was won by a former Englishman...He is quite a fine young man and super knowledgeable about Model Ts and an enormously capable restorer...Congratulations my friend

I think it is a particularly noteworthy achievement as he won with a "black car". Most of the winners seem to have come from the brass era. It would be interesting to know in the history of the award how many post brass era cars have won. Well done Ross.

Eric M. -- I was at the 2006 tour in Clear Lake and saw your perfect '26 or '27 Stynoski-winning car. One thing which really impressed me is that you drove the car on the tours in the following days, even one day during which it rained cats and dogs! You gained a great deal of respect from lots of us that day.

Needless to say, the fellow who entered the "other" car in the competition -- a 1910 Town Car -- was really upset, to say the least. :-)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Eric Macleod on Saturday, July 22, 2017 - 10:50 pm:

The Tow n Car, a spectacular car that I was certain would whip my pants, was, and I think still is, owned by Craig Beek of the Moline, IL area.

Mike, I appreciate the kind words. You will be pleased to know we continue to show and drive the car extensively. It is getting to a point of needing a bit of freshening up but is still a car i greatly enjoy using.

I wish the very same for the newest member of the Stynoski fraternity. I have to ho on record for saying I'm impressed that he won with a black car, but one that is also Canadian made and a closed car. I wonder how many closed cars have ever won. One? Two? It can't be many.
