If you get a chance, please let us know if the Erickson Power Fork Lift SNFA87 is powered by a Model A Ford engine, Model B Ford engine (has a fuel pump on the right side of the engine and/or a block off plate), or some other engine.

Looking at the photos I believe it likely is a Model A Ford engine and transmission used to power the fork lift. But I cannot see the size or other details of the engine.

I do like that little fork truck, I will check it out for you, maybe I will bring it home with me.

It amazes me how to w many Model T guys are out there. I've been involved with the hobby for almost twenty years. I've been an active member of MTFCA and MTFCI chapters here in Minnesota. I know hundreds of antique car enthusiasts right here in Minnesota. But, I still keep finding long time old car folks that I haven't met.

I never had the pleasure of meeting John Schoening. He clearly had a neat collection, but even living right in my back yard, we never managed to cross paths. I never even heard of him before I saw the auction sale bill a few weeks ago. I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. I'd probably let that HCCT follow me home from the auction.

I'll avoid this one, as the timing would be terrible for me to bring anything else home right before I need to rearrange everything for winter storage.

I'm with Derek on this one. I have way too many barns that are at capacity already. I better stay home.

John would be at the Scott County Tractor group showing off a steam traction engine. At one time about 1966 he had a home in Orono and stored a Case engine there.

Many of the vehicles were not running but could have been easily. also many of them did not have titles. I did not bring any home.

Here are a couple more of the lift I believe it was model A

Engine was Model A for sure, no fuel pump opening, 4 bolt water pump, zenith carburetor. It has a 1930 stock radiator and shell. The hydraulic pump is driven by an additional belt on the front of the engine.

Steering is done by a single rear wheel, and controlled using a large lever on the left. There are two(!) extra handles welded on, they must be needed to get full steering without bending over too far.

It has a Model A (car) clutch and transmission. The clutch is controlled by a pedal/plate on the floor. It would be easy to stand on the pedal, thus keeping the machine in neutral while raising or lowering the forks. The transmission is connected to the drive shaft by a vertical chain drive. The drive axle looked to be re-purposed truck, with wide brake drums. The make is unknown to me. Auctioneer said it had been running, turned over but they were unable to start it.

The $900 Erickson did have a set of forks! Is that thing (conglomeration) a stand-up type like a Namco or an ECXX Clark fork lift?

Yes it is and the dump truck is right next to it. I thought all of the TT's and AA's were reasonable but the rest of the T's were on the high side.

As Jay and others pointed out it is Model A style engine.

Below is a 1928-1931 Model A Ford engine from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1931_Ford_Model_A_roadster_engine.JPG Note the BLACK oil return pipe / tube that terminates near the front lower part of the block. The Model A engines have that the Model B engines do not.



Below is the fork lift engine:



Below is an illustration from e-bay of a Model B engine note the fuel pump would not fit if there was an oil return pipe/tube like the Model A engine has.



And as several pointed out the Model A has a 4 bolt water pump and the Model B has a 3 bolt water pump.

Note the older I get the more a fork lift etc. looks better and better.
