Does anyone have a solution to the problem of finding a replacement for the vertical, heavy felt window channels used in these coupes. The original seems to be just a heavy felt type material. The vendors supply a covered metal channel for the later coupes which is larger in cross section and deeper than the slots in the earlier coupes. Also is there a suitable rubber molding for the rear window that anyone has used? Thanks for any input.

I doubt you will be able to locate any felt channel. But, you might be able to make your own. The 19-22 coupes had the channel mounted to the glass not the pillars. Here is a link to some felt that you may be able to make channel out of that is very close to the original style.

Thanks for helping Don. I have 6 coupe doors that have some of the felt in place on the vertical channels. It is attached to the wood uprights. After posting yesterday I did more internet searching. I found one possible solution.

SAS1518PBK: 1 1/2" wide x 1/8" thick Black Polyester/Acrylic self- adhesive felt strip in medium density (0.26 gm/c3 - F-5). Roll length 25.5 ft. $25.00 for 25.5 ft, $40.00 for 51 ft, $75.00 for 102 ft.

I will try to post pictures of some of the original material that is still in place on the doors later today. Thanks again.

William,

Please post photos of your "felt find", of your windows, and of your widow channels. We are restoring a '20 center door and have 2 of the channel widow frames. I'll have to figure out the rest.

Thank You,
Terry

I am also interested in seeing where this goes. Restoring a 20 coupe and this has been a bit of a mystery. George

Duro-Felt products manufactures self adhesive felt rolls like those listed in my previous post. I have no affiliation with the company.

Speedway sells this channel, it has no steel reinforcement. It might be worth a try.

When dealing with the quarter windows I found that the vendor supplied felt covered channels were rigid and would not allow the outward movement necessary to position the window over the trim strip to "lock" the window in the up position. I did resort to the felt strips mentioned above which allowed the necessary movement. This was my way of dealing with this problem. If others have solved this issue in other ways I would like to hear their solutions.

I also have been trying a product called Flex Trim for the quarter round used for the rear window escutcheon. I have it tacked in place as a trial pending the installation of the headliner. I wasn't really looking forward to building a steamer and all the other issues associated with using wood. This material can be stained, painted ,or covered with the same fabric used for the headliner. I have no affiliation with this company.trim
