I am starting a project to duplicate my Grandpa's '22 T Speedster with 3 springer T frame.
I picked up a nice set of Chev leaf spring brackets and need the wisdom of the group to illustrate just how to safely convert the 22 frame to parallel front leafs.
I've been told the T frame must be extended at the front - though this was from a English friend who has experience with Austin cars.
John, if you don't extend the frame at the front, the ale will be moved rearwards by half the spring length. You need dumb irons to get it in the right place.
Allan from down under.
Thanks Alan- makes sense ! Now the question - do you use another marques frame front 'dumb irons' (any idea on a suitable donor ) and then I would rivit to the T frame vs weld
John I removed the factory hangers from the axle and mounted the springs to a 1/2'' steel plate on each side with u bolts and then mounted the plate to the axle with 3/4'' Grade 8 bolts. I also used spacer blocks to get the height I wanted.Works well for me, but I didn't use a T frame on my truck, so no extending was needed. Don't know if this would help.
