After doing everything I could think of to find and correct my '23 touring engine's rather loud rattle I finally have stumbled on to the cause. I rebuilt my generator last weekend and upon re-installing it I of course replaced the mounting gasket. Rattle gone!!!! What was driving me crazy was the noise at a certain harmonic between the cam gear and the gen. gear. The new gasket moved the meshing contact point slightly and now NO RATTLE!! I have wasted countless hours in my search only to have the simple harmless cause in essence find me.
I suppose in time the rattle will return but only now I know what it is! I believe I have read this in more than one place: "Model Ts make all kinds of noises--just ignore it and drive"
Great to hear that you found this.
