Thanks for any help, trying to keep the car correct
Original gutters I have found were nailed on, evidence being the dumping of metal on the underside as the nail was driven through.

Thank you Allan, I have always enjoyed correctly rebuilt/restored cars over modified ones. I want to experience the car as it left the factory, modified machines have their place....just not in my garage ! I also want to honor the history of this remarkable auto when folks stop to ask questions. I rely heavily on the knowledge of folks like yourself to do it right. Really enjoy following your posts....always something interesting !Thanks again,John
John, don't take my previous post as gospel. I need to check a couple of gutters I have in my swap meet stocks. There were two separate tinplate thin pieces on the sides of the firewall which were definitely nailed on. I do believe the gutter was nailed on also, but it my have had holes drilled to take the nails.

Allan, thanks for the follow up, I will wait to hear more from you before I install. I have a '19 center door if it makes a difference. thanks again
John, I have three rain gutters off the car. One is new old stock. All three have eight 5/32" holes drilled for attachment. On each side, the first hole is 1/2" from the end and the last, 1/4" from the hood rod locator, the other two holes evenly spaced between these.
I believe the gutters were nailed on with the same nails used to hold the hood lacing in place. The drilled holes made it easy to find them when placing the nails. The spacing of the holes makes it likely that the lacing did not always stay where it was wanted. One of my gutters has two definite nail punched holes at the corners, indicating that the lacing needed extra help to stay in place.
Hope this helps,

Wish it wasn't such a long swim to your place, I would love to meet you and see your collection....Folks like you are a key reason why the "T" hobby is my favorite of all the car hobbies!! Happy motoring !
