I really like tweaking the spark and carburetor. So, when I put the dashboard on the '23 I could see that it was going to be more difficult than my old speedster to get down to the carburetor needle adjustment.
So, I got a nice accessory Imperial Carburetor Control. The adjusting knob with indicator clamps to the dashboard [no drilling] and has a rod that goes through the firewall into a geared fitting on the other side. The regular adjusting rod is cut down a little and is attached to the bottom gear. I did have to drill two small holes in the fire wall to install the gear assembly. It came with a small block of wood as a spacer, but I used two brass coil box spacers as they used less room. Works great .. would be a great accessory to offer today.
Cool Mark, Can we see the carb end too please?
That IS cool !!
That is neat. Maxwell had something like that as standard equipment on their cars.
Here is the complete link from inside firewall to carburetor.
Does magic hold the two gears together?
LOL OH Wait I see it!
Looks like the two gears are on one bracket. This bracket is connected to the firewall.
Yes, the gears are held by a very strong bent steel bracket bolted onto the firewall. The two rods are held to the gears by collars fitted with set screws. A very solid unit with no slop in the gearing .... so far. Drove into down town Rochester to get some supplies. Amazing what a little carburetor tweaking can do for performance.
Working on a field expedient version. Photos to come. It involves a fishing reel and an outboard motor.
Being envious of Mark's set up and thinking it unlikely that I would ever find one like it, I gathered up an old fishing reel, a control knob from an old outboard motor, a couple of fabricated brackets and here it is! Works reasonably well but I must admit it isn't particularly pleasing to the eye. It will suffice however until something better comes my way.
And the interior view.
Well ... just bought a Stromberg carburetor that has no need for that adjuster ... so might be removing it ... and selling it. :-)
Well...PM a price and lets talk!!
So Mark, what is the point? What is wrong with the way it's supposed to be? In addition, you drilled two unauthorized holes!
Larry .... didn't know I would find the OF carburetor. But I will use those same two holes for a small bracket for the "authorized" Stromberg choke control which I have for this carburetor. Take a deep breath.
