I'm installing a Stewart model 160 speedometer in the '23 runabout and need to know where the notch is generally cut in the floorboard. Does anyone have a picture of the typical application? Also, I have a slight kink near the rear no of my cable. Anyone have any experience in cutting one down and re-installing the terminal end?

I believe the former poster here, Royce Peterson, did a photo post on replacing the ends. In looking for a link to post I see you had already asked how to shorten the cable.

Yes, never really got an answer to it the first time. Just put on the wheel gear and the swivel. Anxious to connect the two ends of the system.

Mark: Study the floor boards carefully, and the r.h. engine pan. As I recall, my '25 which should be close to your car has the hole for the casing very close to the right edge of the floorboard.

Got it ... cut in about 2" from the right on the top floorboard.

I lubricated the the cable housing interior, lubricated the chains and assembled the ends. Jacked the front wheel up. Carefully adjusted the ends to engage in the speedometer and the swivel ... then turned the wheel slowly and ... broke a link. :-)

I had originally found this vintage Stewart cable sticking out of the ground behind a barn and cleaned it out the best I could. I suspect it might still be rough enough inside so that the links couldn't rotate smoothly. Going to put a modern insert cable in the housing instead. So, I have two good ends and enough links [had some extras] for a 5' cable if anyone is interested. Pre-lubed too!
