I have been reading the forum for a long time and this is my first post, so go easy on me.
I just purchased a 26 touring and I am having trouble starting it. My first few attempts at starting it there were no problems. Now when pressing the starter switch the engine barely moves.
The only thing I have done to the car is change the oil. used 10w-30. The engine will turn over with the hand crank and it would probably start if I was more experienced.
The battery cables are not in good condition and the previous owner has bolted them to surfaces that are painted. I have new cables on order and will clean the paint from contact surfaces.
Is there anything else I should check? Is there a good test to know if the starter is strong?
Clean the paint off the contact area and make sure that the battery is fully charged
DJ, what type starter switch do you have? If it is a new reproduction the internals a light duty
and often give trouble. My advise is to find an original switch. These can be disassembled and
repaired with little trouble. (if need be)

Thanks lee.
That is the mission for tomorrow, inspect the switch. Are reproduction switches not designed to be rebuilt?

I had almost the same problem with my 25 T. I replaced my ground cable and made sure I had a good clean contact. I also replaced the starter switch but kept the old one to rebuild later if needed. Had the starter rebuilt also.
