Did Ford offer bud vases for open cars in 1926? Was that strictly aftermarket? What do they look like if Ford ever offered them? What are you all using? How did you fab the mounts?

Thanks again, Erich

Hello Erich:

I am not sure that Ford offered any bud / car vases, I just don't know? I acquired a replacement for my 26 Fordor on E bay. Mine are what they call Deco Green Valvoline style. I got a perfect match. There are some of e bay now. You might want to take a look. Type in CAR VASE. Erich, Good Luck.

Though having vases in an open car probably would not be very advantageous ??

Reich,

Ford never offered bud vases. They were aftermarket. Not sure where you would put one in a open car. The dash??? That's where the new VW bugs have them!

Harvey,

I think you mean Vasoline? As in Vasoline glass?

Erich,

I don't believe any automaker offered bud vases & that they were either aftermarket or dealer installed, probably for marketing purposes. Just got Mac's catalog yesterday & they offer new vases in various colors.

My question is where would you put a bud vase in an open car?

Harvey, sure you didn't mean Vasoline glass.

Alex

I have a small hole the previous owner put in the dash on the pass side and I was wondering what to do with it. The bud vase seemed like a nice idea. I also have a larger hole near the middle of the dash that will get a dash light as soon as one follows me home.

We have a bud vase in our '26 Touring on the passenger side of the dash. Adds a splash of color and covers a hole. Also have two on either side of the rear seat on our A Town Sedan.

I heard at one point that the purpose of the bud vases was to keep some fragrant flowers in the car which would mask the "mohair and sweat" smell.

my grand father told me that the flower vases were to hold flowers to indeed mask smell. hygene was not anywhere near what we expect today so yup cover smell, open cars had them on dash, closed had them in back seat area where breeze could circulate the floral aroma so to speak! the brakets can be purchased from most any model t or model a supplier i think snyders has just brakets too. i have these in my 28 model a and 31 hudson, nice conversation pieces i might add!

We've picked the vases up over the years at swap meets, sometimes with the holders but often without. Most of the vendors sell modern brackets and vases which aren't too bad, but don't have quite the same feel as the originals. Both vases and brackets come up fairly regularly on ebay.

I'll try to get a pic today of ours.

I've had great success using a dab of modified bitumen roofing tar to mount bud vases to my dash.

Here are some pictures of the budvase on the dash of our '26 Touring Car, plus a few other colorful items we added to break up the black. We picked up the vase itself at a swap meet, it has nice detail and a silver bottom piece. My daughter assembled the silk flowers to go in it.
