The 26 Touring is officially roadworthy. Many thanks to all on this forum who took the time to answer my incessant barrage of questions. I had heard that the "Improved cars" lacked the get up and go that the early cars had. Well it is true unfortunatly. It appears that to make things worse she may even have a 3 to 1 rear axle as at 20 mph the engine is lugging badly. There are no shakes or bad rattles and the trans works well with the kevlar bands and jack rabbit clutch. I have the new tires on order, good thing because one rear went flat just as I got home. It appeared to develope a strange decel backfire after about 1/2 an hour, thoughts as to too lean/rich, should retard the spark, other.

Popping on deceleration is pretty typical of many T carbs. Only way I know to cure it is do not back off on the throttle completely when decelerating.
