Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2009: Best Cover

Hi Guys; I'm new to the forum. I work at a small winery here in Maine and we just purchased a 1923 touring car. Mostly original and BEAUTIFUL!!! The idea being that it will sit in front of the winery during the day and be kept in a garage the rest of the time. The question is: We want to cover it if it rains and need to know the best cover. I know some of them cause more problems with condensation and rubbing on the paint, yet we want it to be waterproof. Any suggestions?

I think the best protection from sun and occasional rain would be some kind of carport:

You would still have the problem of moving the car every morning & night - why not keep it in front of the vinery all the time - until it's time for an occasional trip ;-)

Thanks Karl, I think that may actually be the best alternative. I really like that clear carport idea.

If I can make a small plea -- please drive it occassionally, put it in local parades, community events, etc.

There's a beautiful, fully restored and operable Model A Roadster Pickup in such an enclosure close to us for a decorating firm. They view it as only an advertizement for their firm and have no intention of ever moving it or driving it again which to me just seems like a crime. What better advertizing could you have than letting the car speak for your winery at local events.

Joel: Where in Maine are you ? I'm over in Albion which is not far from Waterville. We have a nice club here in the state which will help you with any questions you have. Hope to hear from you.

Bill, his profile says he is in Lincolnville.

Right Bill. Lincolnville, I'm sure we can get a lot of help from the guys at Owl's Head Transportation Museum. I know the fella we bought it from is involved with them. They don't come much better than those guys. Anybody who's never been there, it's well worth the trip. Thanks for the offer Bill. You never know. Wayne, the car will be used a lot. This is not your basic small winery. We have constant events and activities going on. In fact, we've been written up in WSJ and mentioned on "The Today Show". Thanks for the help guys. I'm actually trying to talk them out of covering it at all. I figure the rubbing will do more damage than a little rain.

If you have insurance on the T, that insurance company may require that the vehicle be kept in a "locked garage". If so, better check with the insurance company to see if your enclosure qualifies.
