On the Fordor sedan there is a strip of wood which runs under the rear floor boards. It runs front to back in the center and supports the ends of the left and right floor boards.
Does anyone have the dimensions of this piece?
Thanks,
Dave S.
Dave, if it's the same as the '23- '25 tudor sedan I can dig it out. Jim Sims was kind enough to make a great sketch and included dimensions for me to use on my tudor sedan re-wooding. If it's a different piece then I can't help you out. Any idea if it is the same?
Mike
Mike,
Actually, I'm working on the Fordor now, but I need to do the Tudor next. According to the Change Notice, some of the Fordor rear floor boards were also used on the Tudor. Could you send me what you have?
Thanks,
Dave S.
Sure will. I will dig the info out and will mail you what I have, both info from Jim and also some measurements I've taken from a tudor about an hour away from me.
Can you email me your mailing info? Maybe a phone number also?
Thanks,
Mike

Dave, i took my 24 Fordor to the painter yesterday before i read you post,it will be several weeks before i get it back, but if i am out there i will measure it for you.
Rick
I just made one of those some months back for my '26. It's not fastened in yet so I can get those dimensions for you this weekend if there is no one can do it earlier. I also have two originals but they have a slight curve to them.
Hi Dave. I have an all original 1926 Fordor (which is really a 1925 Fordor) that has never been touched and has all the original, painted black, body wood as it came from the factory. I went ahead and crawled underneath and took some pictures of the rear seat center support and I also took a tape measure and measured it. The piece is 17" long x 2 1/8" wide x 7/8" thick. The front end of the piece is fastened to the front wooden crossmember that goes from side to side and is level with the front end of the center support and the rear end of the center support slides into a metal support backet that is mounted to the underside of the rear crossmember which is 7/8" higher than the rear end of the center support. If it will help, I can post the pictures I took of what I just described. Jim Patrick
Hi Jim
If at all possible could you post a shot or two of your 26 Fordor?
Thanks, Harvey ....
I'll post them tomorrow morning. Jim
Here are several pitures of the rear seat center floorboard support for a 1926' ('25) Fordor. Jim Patrick.
Sorry. I have been referring to this as the "rear seat center support" when I should have been saying "rear floorboard center support". Jim Patrick
Jim
I should have been more specific, an exterior shot. Just wanted to see what another 26 Fordor looks like?
Harvey ....
Here you go Harvey. I have had several members come over to see the car in order to determine how the assembly was originally done, especially where bolts and woodwork joinery are concerned. I'm sure it has been garaged its' entire life and doubt if it has ever spent a day outside as it still has its' original top and sun visor. The only thing unoriginal is the red paint job which was applied years ago by a prior owner to preserve the body in anticipation for the day when it would be completely restored, which I'm not sure I ever want to do since it is in such good shape. Everything else is original and untouched. The pinstriping on the body, but not on the spokes, is an accurate depiction. Jim Patrick
Thanks to everyone that replied both here and in emails.
This is the information I have so far:
1924 (photo only) - Attached to underside of cross member at front, ?? at rear
1924 - 20-1/4 x 2 x 3/4 - Metal Bracket at rear, mortise and tenon at front.
1924 Canadian - 20-1/2 x 2 x 3/4 - ?? at rear, half lap joint at front.
1926 - 17 1/8 x 2-1/8 x 7/8 - bracket at rear, ?? at front.
Seems like there may have been some changes over the years??? So far I have not located a part number for this piece or the bracket. If I can figure out that, I can order the Change Notices and probably clear up some of this!
If anyone else can provide some measurements maybe we can figure it out?
Dave S.
Dave, on the '26 the front T joint where the center support connects to the front crossmember my picture shows a flush fitting joint with no visible form of securement, so I would guess the piece is secured by dowels in the side of the crossmember and into the ends of the center support. It appears (though I am not sure) that the metal rear support bracket for the center support is secured to the front face of the metal seat support creating a bridge for the floorboard to sit on. Perhaps someone can verify this. It shoild not be difficult to make one of these metal support brackets by bending a piece of steel 2 1/8" wide x 2 7/8" long into a 7/8" x 2" angle. I can get the exact measurements if you'd like. Jim Patrick
Dave, here is a picture of mine in place. Following is a quick CAD drawing I did with all the dimensions except the width, which is 2.0625. Basically its a piece of wood 18 x 2x 11/16" with the step cut out of it.
oops...forgot the dimension on the tenon. The step is cut 1" into the length, leaving the temon 1" long to slip into the crossmember.
If you need a picture of the steel bracket in place at the rear I can take one, just don't have a camera here at the moment because the family is gone with it. The floor support is fastened into the crossmember with screws from the bottom, running through the tenon. All the dimensions and attachement methods were taken from original wood which I still have here.
Jim:
Thanks for the specific (exterior) shots of your Fordor. A beautiful machine?
The dimensions of the center rear floor board support on a '23 - '25 tudor sedan are as follows: 13" long (plus add extra for mortise/tenon joint in center cross member) x 2" wide x 3/4" thick.
As noted above, mortise/tenon on the front where it joins the center cross member, but attaches to the rear seat heel panel with a 2" wide x 1/16" thick folded steel that is riveted to the rear seat heel panel.
