I´m restoring a 1914 T runabout. The carburetor is non stock and marked "Master Carburetor Comp LA California" and the aluminum intake manifold is marked "Master". Can someone give info how to adjust this carb and its general functions.

I bought one of those at Chickasha about five years ago, and haven't tried it yet.

Let's see if I have the picture ritual:

That page is from 1918.

I believe these were designed for heavy fuels, including distillate. They later moved to Chicago, I believe, and got some fame in racing. The early Winfield carb is similar, but with a piccolo tube instead of a harmonica for a fuel distributor.

Is yours updraft, too?

Thanks alot for your answere. I was just out into the garage for a closer check, and it looks it is identical in most parts but with one exception, mine has another type of air intake, as far as I can see. It also has sort of a tubing up to a cast aluminum pre-heating device that sits on the side of the exhaust manifold.
If I can figure how to ad a picture I´ll send you one later.
Thanks alot ,again.

The pre-heater is interesting. That's definitely made for burning heavy fuels. I also have a brass Ensign carb for burning heavy fuels. It has a separate burner fed with alcohol or gasoline and an igniter spark plug built into it.

You see here the famous Miller carb is the Master without the pre-heater:

What part of Sweden, Magnus? Your homepage link in your profile doesn't work. Wife has cousins we have visited in the south, near Ahus, by Kristianstaad.

It´s years since a friend built my homepage for me. It should be updated since I do no longer live outside Stockholm. We moved about a year ago to a small town called Eskilstuna that´s just about 150 km west of Stockholm.
It is interesting what you say about heavy fuels. It means my carb was installed sometime during WWI, when fuels were changed and became inferior. And since the carb was with the 1914 when I found it, that seems logical.
How do I attach a picture to this message? I´d like to show you my carb with that pre-heater on it.

Magnus

Hi Stan, It has been mostly perfect all year. We took it on a trip across the northern cacades in June. Had one hicupp when the float stuck open. Took it apart and found some blasting media in it. Cleaned it all out and has run perfect ever since. Put about 2500 miles on it this summer. I really enjoy the carb. Mike
