THIS MAY SOUND LESSER INFORMED! I BOUGHT SOME PARTS A FEW YEARS AGO AND JUST THIS PAST WEEK I STARTED WORKING ON THE TIMERS. ONE OF THEM HAS A STRAP FROM #1 TO #3. WAS THAT USED ON A TRACTOR OR CAN SOMEONE TELL WHAT AND WHERE. THIS IS THE FIRST ONE I HAVE SEEN LIKE THIS. THANK YOU

Just a guess, but firing two plugs at a time works on our T's. The True Fire coilpack fires 1+3 and then 2+4 (I think I got that right...) together. Maybe the previous owner wanted to do the same thing?

1 and 3 are 180 degrees from each other so I don't think you'd want to fire 1 & 3 at the same time.

Bill, check to see if your strap isn't just a wire retainer. They used them on some timers.

This is why I operate off a checklist and not from memory - oh well!

I think what he is talking about is the cardboard wire retainer they started using around 1922 to prolong the life of the wires. It was added to minimize flex of the wires right at the terminals on the timer and make the wiring harness last a little longer. Most times they must have been thrown away when the timer was changed or when the harness was changed so you rarely see them these days. I've only seen two on all the cars I have worked on, yet all T's left the factory with them after about 1922.
