A friend stumbled upon a 22 Center Door at an antique shop in McCalister Texas. I don't see them often and wondered if they are a little rare? This one is in pretty good shape. It has a newer interior and has been painted sometime in the past. All the bits a pieces look to be there, and I would guess it would run with a little fussing. Any idea about what it might be worth? He is asking $13,000. Thanks! Mike

They are out there, just have to look....

here was a very nice original that sold at Chickasha last year for $11,500. Pretty straight T with nice inside too.

We have one in Long Beach with an A crank, four wheel hydraulic brakes, a Winfield carburetor, Bosch Distributor, three speed aluminum Warford and a Ruckstell rear axle with safety hubs. He is asking $16,500 and it is a freeway flyer that will do 60 all day in heavy traffic. So a "might go" for $13,000 sounds awfully steep to me. It would cost over $5000 and a lot of work to make your Texas car the same as the one here for $16,500. I would look around before I jump quickly into the fire.

What would it cost to convert the CA car back to the way Henry made it? ;-)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Probably quite a bit less than what you could get for the parts you replaced. ;-)

I couldn't resist either.

Hal,

Please don't take my comment wrong. I have stock T's as well as a speedster that is modified a fair bit. I like em all and wouldn't kick any real T out of my garage for leaking a bit of oil on the floor. The CA centerdoor is a neat car but not everyones cup of tea.

No offense taken and I hope no one was offended by my statement. I was just joking around.

I will have to admit that when I read a lot of the ads for cars for sale and they go on and on about what they have added and changed, seemingly as their selling points, I'm thinking "What would it take for me to undo that?" However, to each his own, and it is a good thing they DO mention all those things, because whether that IS what you are looking for or it is specifically NOT what you are looking for, that IS the information you need to help you with your decision.

$13,500 is 2X the money based on your description. Any '22 Model T worth more than $6,000 has to be in good, tour proven, running order with good tires.

Centerdoors are uncommon, but not rare. They should (and do) bring more money than a Roadster or Touring in similar condition. I would not buy one unless it had a straight body with solid wood and ALL of the correct body hardware. Replacemants for those items are just too hard to find. Upholstery is expensive, but available.

This car, with around 4,000 miles on a complete engine and driveline rebuild, with new spokes, tires and a Brassworks radiator, was worth about $11,000 when I traded it off in '07.

I agree thirteen grand for a '22 T that MIGHT run is way too much. For that kind of dough it should look great and be dependably running well. Look at the ads in a few issues of the Vintage Ford and you'll see some nice cars for prices like that.

Ah, don't forget, "at an antique shop" -- that would explain the price!!
