Here is an article from The Jasper News 1917. Looks like Fords were a popular target for thieves.
Another Ford Stolen
Wm. Greenwood, who resides on the baseline and half a mile east of Jasper, lost a brand new 1917 Ford last Friday night when thieves broke into his place and made away with his car. Mr. Greenwood thinks there were several men in the party and while one stayed in the road in front of his house and held the attention of the dog and other pushed the car out the back way, cutting five fences and literally carrying the car over a deep ditch in order to reach the road. Mr. Greenwood says he may buy another car, but if he does it will be one that a man can't pick up and carry off on his shoulder. The car was insured.

I don't know if it was targetted because it was a Ford or just by law of averages. At one point half of all cars on the road were Fords.
